Healing After Abortion

Respect, Nurture, Reclaim, Community

AUGUST 29 2020 9AM MST – 5:30PM MST

Healing After Abortion is a multi-layered experience, depending on how we individually feel about our abortion experience. Shame and suffering are not inherent to the abortion experience, it is situational and deeply influenced by our current culture.

With compassionate and wise education and heart-centred support join Teresa Campbell and I in healing undue suffering, nourishing our bodies, and reclaiming ourselves.

Whether your abortion was 20 years ago or 3 days ago

Whether you feel immense grief or immense relief around your abortion

Whether you have been experiencing painful imbalances or nothing at all

Whether you feel disempowered or totally empowered by your abortion

Whether you were completely alone or had beautiful support during your abortion

Tending to your uterus, heart, body, and spirit will support you in coming into a deeper relationship with yourself, heal any stuck residue from your abortion experience, and thrive in your pelvic health.

In an inclusive, non-judgmental space Teresa and I will weave a full day of being held, informed, and nurture our bodies and wombs.

In this full-day virtual retreat, we will:

  • Deconstruct the taboo of abortion and mainstream thinking that abortion is a destructive harmful choice
  • Learn that abortion has been a part of womxn’s natural and normal health care for centuries and will continue to be
  • Deconstruct the shame and silence held in our bodies and psyche around abortion
  • Learn your sexual/pelvic anatomy
  • Discuss the physiological effects of DNC (surgical abortion) and Mifepristone and Misoprostol (medical abortion)
  • Reframe our abortion experience and reclaim our language around abortion
  • Grief ritual with journaling and embodiment practices
  • Embodiment practices to support your body
  • Self-uterine unwinding practices
  • Ritual and self-closing of the bones ceremony

I am a French-English-Irish-Scottish-Choctaw womxn gently living on the land where the Bow and Elbow Rivers meet, Mohkinstsis. Traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina, the Îyârhe Nakoda, and Métis Nation.

I am devoted to the journey of living in our bodies, experiencing our full selves and eradicating any shame living inside us, and the reclamation of our vulvas and vaginas by educating womxn about their anatomy. I am a Somatic Sex Educator, Holistic Reproductive Health Practitioner, and Manual Therapist. I work with womxn on a full spectrum of care by teaching, supporting, listening, and doing hands-on hands-in manual therapy.

My approach to healing our bodies and coming back home to ourselves is rooted in the intersection of the wise womxn tradition, trauma-informed care, 15 years experience being a manual therapist, somatic sex education, and full-spectrum doula care.

Teresa (she/they) is an Italian-Scottish queer womxn living on unceded land belonging to the Coast Salish peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Teresa is entirely devoted to paths of embodiment and reclamation, including personal, cultural and collective. Teresa is a Celebrant, Death Doula-including end of life and sudden death, a Grief Guide, full-spectrum doula, Dance Therapist and Energetic womb worker. For over 25 years she/they have served folks in thresholds and transitions, holding vigil, living funerals, weddings, death, birth, rites of passage.

She trains folks to become fuller spectrum doulas and trauma inclusive-feminist yoga teachers and strives to ground her practice in the values of anti-oppression, anti-racism, anti-white supremacy, liberation and intersectional feminism. Teresa is committed to doing the work necessary and using her place of privilege to support a world that is safer and just.
